These photos were recently sent back to to NZ by an old Tyneside (UK) relative who'd received

them 70-odd years ago. Johnny Jones left school at 13 and rather than go "down the mine" to

work decided to become a "postie"

The photo below is of the hospital, after exterior restoration and just before it mysteriously burned down.
It was the central point of the conservation of Waiuta and formation of Friends of Waiuta.
