Directions
Access to Waiuta is signposted from State Highway 7, - 58 km north of Greymouth and 21 km south of Reefton.
A 9 km drive up a narrow sealed road first takes you to Blackwater, where the old school is, well worth stopping to visit. Sit at one of the desks, dip a pen nib in the inkwell, and you’re ready for a lesson from another time.
Beyond Blackwater a good shingle road winds up through forest for 8km to emerge on Waiuta's Top Road.
The main information area is about half a kilometre on, overlooking the Blackwater Mine site.

Map Instructions:Use your mouse to click on the + and - to zoom in and out of the map. The 'bubble' is placed as near as possible to the location described so it is generally worth zooming in to get a better sense of it's location. In a few cases where there is little detail available you may need to zoom out (click on '-' a few times) to see the map properly. You can also click in the map and drag to see other places - the whole world can be viewed. If you live in a city you can probably even find your house!
